Building Forward Together

Just about every night, Andrea and I like to take our big German Shepherd, Ruby, for a walk around our church property. There are a lot of reasons I like to do this, namely the exercise for all of us, but it's also to see the 25+ acres that God has entrusted to our church. Of course, so much of the landscape stays the same, though it beautifully changes with each season. Right now, some of the trees are on fire with orange and red leaves, and others are bright yellow. Though the grass is still green, its growth is slowing as the sun gets lower and lower to the south of us.

And as we walk around, it’s always good to see the changes that we make with the property, and sometimes, some of the changes we need to make.

Every once in a while, it’s good to stop and ask ourselves two questions: What has God entrusted to us, and what are we doing to prepare for what’s next?

At LakePoint, we’ve been having some of those conversations.

Like any church, we have things that need attention. Buildings require maintenance, while systems need to be updated. Everything eventually wears out. There are also opportunities to make improvements that help us serve people better and create space for ministry to happen.
Those conversations have led our leadership to think about something we’re calling Building Forward Together.

The name is intentional because we’re not simply talking about taking care of a building. We’re talking about taking responsibility for what we’ve been given while looking ahead to what God might have for us.

And there’s always a balance to that.

We have a responsibility to take care of what we already have. Biblical stewardship means being faithful with the resources God has entrusted to us, even when the work isn’t particularly exciting or visible.

At the same time, we don’t want to spend all our energy maintaining what exists today and forget to prepare for tomorrow. There are opportunities to invest in our ministry, serve families, strengthen our connections with the community, and create environments where people can encounter Jesus. To God, I believe both matter.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll share more about what this looks like for LakePoint. We’ll talk about some of our needs, some of our opportunities, and how we’re thinking about the future.
I also believe this is an opportunity for us to think about generosity, not simply as a way to fund a project, but as part of what it means to follow Jesus. Generosity certainly involves more than just money. It reflects how we understand everything God has entrusted to us and how we’re willing to use it for the good of others.

My hope is that Building Forward Together will be about more than completing a list of projects. I hope it will be an opportunity for us to grow in stewardship, generosity, and a shared commitment to the ministry God has given us. We’re not just maintaining a building, or what we call “The Meeting House.” We’re preparing for the future of our ministry.
And we’re going to do it together.

More to come.
